The Context:
In the winter of 1944-1945, through the snowy Ardennes Forest, the German and American armies fought one of the most decisive and bloody battles in World War II in Europe. Under pressure from two fronts, Hitler decided on 16 December 1944 to attack the American troops in the Ardennes, in Belgium and Luxembourg. The main objective was to capture the port of Antwerp, a vital logistical hub for the Allies. Although initially, the element of surprise was on the German side, in the end, Hitler‘s gamble failed due to lack of fuel, bad weather, and insufficient troops on the battlefield. In the Ardennes, the German army was stopped without the possibility to recover until the end of WW2.
